What is the difference between RNA and DNA?

DNA has the base thymine whilst RNA has the base uracil.

This is the main difference between DNA and RNA. Also, RNA is used in DNA replication - mRNA moves from the nucleus to the cytoplasm and tRNA is involved in the synthesis of new DNA.

The other main difference is that Ribose uses a ribose sugar, whereas DNA is actually called 2`-deoxyribonucleic acid, and does not have an OH group at the 2nd carbon on the ribose sugar. This is important for the stability (lessened reactivity) of DNA.
