Explanation:
Pretty much all of astronomy is about inferences from observations of light energy and movements of masses. Given the reliability of our laws of motion and the accuracy of our observations over time, the only explanation we can currently imagine for the discrepancies of some movements is that there must be some other unobserved masses affecting the galaxy.
