Question #70989

Aug 15, 2016

$\frac{125}{828}$

Explanation:

When dividing by a decimal, we make the divisor into a whole number by multiplying by a power of 10.

$\frac{8.5}{56.304} \times \frac{1000}{1000} = \frac{8500}{56304}$

We can work this out by cancelling using common factors:

$\frac{8500 \div 4}{56304 \div 4} = \frac{2125}{14076}$

$\frac{2125 \div 17}{14076 \div 17} = \frac{125}{828}$

However, this is probably unrealistic manually and we would probably have resorted to using a calculator in the first place.

A fraction answer is better than a rounded off decimal.
