A homonuclear diatomic molecule #C_2# can be observed........

Explanation:

It is not something you could put in a bottle, but the homonuclear diatomic, #C_2#, has been observed spectroscopically. I think this molecule has a bond order of #2#, i.e. #:C=C:#, so it is relatively stable. It would need quite elevated temperatures to enable its observation.
