I would use the fact that $\text{Volt"="Joule"/"Coulomb}$ so that:
at the initial position: ${V}_{A} = \frac{42}{8} = 5.25 V$
at the final position: ${V}_{B} = \frac{16}{8} = 2 V$
and between the two points ${V}_{A B} = 5.25 - 2 = 3.25 V$
