Are primary spermatocytes haploid or diploid?

Spermatocytes are male gametocytes.


  1. They are formed from immature germ cells called spermatogonia.
  2. There are two types of spermatocytes called Primary spermatocytes and Secondary Spermatocytes.
  3. These spermatocytes are formed by a process called spermatogenesis.
  4. Primary spermatocytes are Diploid in nature. They undergo a meiotic division and forms secondary spermatocytes which are haploid in nature.
