Gasoline will not burn as a liquid it will only burn as it evaporates into a gas.

Explanation:

gasoline has to combine with oxygen in order to burn. Gasoline must become a gas in order to combine with oxygen.

gasoline is mainly octane. ${C}_{8} {H}_{18}$ This alkane will burn (oxidize, combine with oxygen) to produce Carbon Dioxide $C {O}_{2}$
and water ${H}_{2} O$

$2 \times {C}_{8} {H}_{18} + 25 \times {O}_{2} = = = = 16 \times C {O}_{2} + 18 {H}_{2} O$

gasoline must evaporate and become a gas in order for it chemically combine with oxygen.
