#Ca(OH)_2# is added to a large beaker of water. How is the solution different from the original water?
Initially the water turns into milky white and called milk of lime. The supernatant solution will be almost clear, colorless and transparent.
The solubility of Calcium hydroxide is approx. 1.5 - 2 .0 gm/litre in almost neutral or fresh water at ambient temperature [ 20- 25 Degree C]. The supernatant clear solution after settling down the undissolved calcium hydroxide, having pH approx. 12.0-12.5.
