Spermatozoa is sperm cell, i.e. male gamete. These are haploid cells produced by meiosis. After meiotic division, haploid spermatid is formed which undergoes differentiation to become motile sperm.

Spermatogonial cells differentiate into primary spermatocytes. Such cells enter meiosis and undergoes haploid division. So multiplication is not primary objective of spermatocytes, it is important for them to achieve haploid condition rather than multiplication.
