However they have other important functions like assembly of signal recognition particles and play an important role in the cells response to stress. They also immobilise certain proteins by the process of nucleolar detention .

Nucleolus is considered to be the cause of several diseases because of its proximity to the chromosomal matter and important role in the assembly of ribosomes.
