Nerves and hormones are two ways our body sends messages to different parts. Nerves use electrochemical messages (impulses) to send messages throughout the body, whereas hormones are released by glands and travel throughout the body to act on receptors on the target tissue. The difference is hormonal responses are much slower; they have to travel through the bloodstream to reach their target organs. Nerves, however, are like a highway for messages to be sent, allowing for quick reactions and innate responses.
