A unit vector is a vector having a unit magnitude.

If we have some vector A and its magnitude is $A$ then the unit vector in it's direction is given as :

a = A/$A$ and it follows that,

A = $A$ a

I have used bold letters to indicate vectors and italics for magnitudes (scalars).
