You set $y = 0$ and solve for $x$.

$y = {x}^{2} - 3 x - 10 = 0$

$\left(x - 5\right) \left(x + 2\right) = 0$

$x - 5 = 0$ or $x + 2 = 0$

$x = 5$ or $x = - 2$

The $x$-intercepts are at ($5 , 0$) and ($- 2 , 0$).
