# How do you divide (5x-5)/16div(x-1)/6?

Jun 3, 2015

Dividing by $\frac{a}{b}$ is the same as multiplying by $\frac{b}{a}$

Thus :

$= \frac{6 \cdot \left(5 x - 5\right)}{16 \cdot \left(x - 1\right)}$

$= \frac{6 \cdot 5 \cdot \left(x - 1\right)}{16 \cdot \left(x - 1\right)}$ ( because $5 \cdot \left(x - 1\right) = 5 x - 5$ )

$= \frac{30 \cdot \left(x - 1\right)}{16 \cdot \left(x - 1\right)}$

$= \frac{30}{16}$ ( we divide by $x - 1$ on each side )

$= \frac{15}{8}$ ( we symplify by dividing by 2 both numerator and denominator )
