# How do you factor 2x^2 + 40x + 200?

May 24, 2015

Simplify first, then factor.

$2 {x}^{2} + 40 x + 200$ = $2 \left({x}^{2} + 20 x + 100\right)$
Work out what numbers multiply to give 100 and add to give 20. The answer is 10 - 10*10 = 100 and 10+10 = 20. Therefore the answer is
$2 {\left(x + 10\right)}^{2}$
