# How do you find the density of a solid?

$\text{Density, } \rho$ $=$ $\text{mass"/"volume}$.
Mass is usually easier to measure. For irregularly shaped solids volume is harder to assess, and sometimes volume is measured by water displacement. In either scenario, density is the mass per unit volume, and for chemists, typically the units $g \cdot m {L}^{-} 1$ are used.
