# How do you find the slope and y intercept for 4x+5y=-10?

May 28, 2015

Given $4 x + 5 y = - 10$

we can re-arrange this as
$y = - \frac{4}{5} x + \text{some constant}$
So the slope is $\left(- \frac{4}{5}\right)$

The y-intercept is the value of $y$ when $x = 0$
$4 \left(0\right) + 5 y = - 10$
$\rightarrow y = - 2$
The y-intercept is $\left(- 2\right)$
