If $y = m x + c$ is an equation of line then $m$ and $c$ are said to be its slope and y-intercept respectively.

Here,

$y = \frac{1}{5} x - 8$
$\implies y = \frac{1}{5} x + \left(- 8\right)$ compare $y = m x + c$

$\implies m = \frac{1}{5} \mathmr{and} c = - 8$

Hence, slope $= \frac{1}{5}$ and y-intercept$= - 8$
