I'm sure you've heard it said before by your teachers:

use common denominators.

Change 3/4 into 6/8 to be able to add the fractions in the parenthesis,

1 6/8 + 2 3/8 = 3 9/8

Simplify, and you have 4 1/8

Now add that to the last fraction,

4 1/8+ 5 7/8

with a result of 9 8/8

Simplify once more and you get 10.
