# How do you solve 0.2a+9=11.4?

Jun 6, 2017

$a = 12$

#### Explanation:

$0.2 a + 9 = 11.4$ => subtract 9 from both sides:
$0.2 a = 2.4$ => divide both sides by 0.2:
$a = \frac{2.4}{\frac{2}{10}} = \frac{24}{2} = 12$

A sort of cheat method. Not really!

$a = 12$

#### Explanation:

Don't like decimals so lets get rid of them.

Multiply everything by 10 giving:

$2 a + 90 = 114$

Subtract 90 from both sides

$2 a = 24$

Divide both sides by 2

$a = 12$
