# How do you solve 3sqrt(4y)=6?

Apr 17, 2015

Take $3$ to the right:
$\sqrt{4 y} = \frac{6}{3}$
$\sqrt{4 y} = 2$
square both sides and solve for $y$

Know that:

$\sqrt{a b} = \sqrt{a} \sqrt{b}$

So:

$3 \sqrt{4 y} = 6$

$\frac{3 \sqrt{4 y}}{3} = \frac{6}{3}$

$\sqrt{4 y} = 2$

$\sqrt{4} \sqrt{y} = 2$

$\frac{\sqrt{4} \sqrt{y}}{\sqrt{4}} = \frac{2}{\sqrt{4}}$

$\sqrt{y} = 1$

$y = {1}^{2}$

$\therefore y = 1$
