either $12 x - \frac{1}{2} = 6$, which gives us $12 x = 6 + \frac{1}{2} = \frac{13}{2}$ and x=13/2×1/12=13/24
or $12 x - \frac{1}{2} = - 6$, which gives us $12 x = - 6 + \frac{1}{2} = - \frac{11}{2}$ and x=-11/2×1/12=-11/24.
