#-2x+3y=12\ ...........(2)#

Adding (1) & (2) as follows

#2x+y+(-2x+3y)=8+12#

#4y=20#

#y=20/4=5#

setting #y=5# in (1), we get

#2x+5=8#

#2x=3#

#x=3/2#
The solution of given linear equations is #x=3/2, \ y=5#
