# How do you solve the system 2x +4y = 8 and -5x +3y = 5?

Given:
{2x+4y=8
{-5x+3y=5
Multiply the first by 5 and the second by 2:
{10x+20y=40
{-10x+6y=10 now add them:
$0 + 26 y = 50$
So: $y = \frac{50}{26} = \frac{25}{13}$
Back in the first equation:
$2 x + 4 \left(\frac{25}{13}\right) = 8$
$2 x = \frac{4}{13}$
$x = \frac{2}{13}$
