# How do you solve the system : x-3y=-2, 4x-2y=-8 ?

Jun 21, 2018

Here x=-2&y=0

#### Explanation:

we have two equations
let $x - 3 y = - 2$ ...............eq( 1)
and $4 x - 2 y = - 8$..............eq(2)
Now we have to subsitute or eliminate either x or y
let us eliminate y
now multiply eq(1) with 2 and eq(2) with 3,we will get
$2 x - 6 y = - 4$...eq(1) and $12 x - 6 y = - 24$....eq(2)
now subtract eq(1) from eq(2)
we will get
$10 x = - 20$ we see that it is in a linear form solving x we get
x=-2
putting y in eq(1) and eq(2)
we get y=0.
