$4x-5y=-1$ (lets call it "1")

and

$2x+y=5$

then
$4x+2y=10$ (lets call it "2")

(Subtract 2 from 1)

$-7y=-11$

$y=11/7$

Hence:

$2x+(11/7)=5$

$2x=(35/7)-(11/7)$

$2x=(24/7)$

$x=(24/7)/2$

$x=(24/14)$

$x=(12/7)$
