as
$3 {x}^{2} - 12 x + 12 = 0$

Factor out the constant $3$
$3 \left({x}^{2} - 4 x + 4\right) = 0$

Factor the expression
$3 \left(x - 2\right) \left(x - 2\right) = 0$

This can only be true if $\left(x - 2\right) = 0$

Therefore $x = 2$
