Carbon cycles through the atmosphere and ocean as Carbon Dioxide. #CO_2#. Carbon cycles through the ecosystem as organic compounds in living things, and the remains of once living things.

Explanation:

The Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere and ocean is changed into organic compounds through photosynthesis. The most common organic compound that Carbon Dioxide is changed into is Glucose sugar #C_6H_12O_6#

Once in the ecosystem the Carbon is changed into a myriad of different organic Carbon compounds. All living things are made of and make use of these organic compounds.

One use of the Carbon compounds is respiration. Respiration turns the Carbon compounds into energy, water and Carbon Dioxide. Respiration returns the Carbon back to the atmosphere as Carbon Dioxide.

Other Carbon Compounds are burned for energy such as gasoline, and coal. When the Carbon Compounds are burned not only do they produce energy they also produce Carbon Dioxide. Again the Carbon Dioxide is returned to the atmosphere completing the Carbon Cycle.
