How is the amount of Karma determined for a response to an answer? Sometimes I see 100 karma for a thank you and sometimes 50 karma for a thank you .

Karma is calculated by looking at your % contribution. Writing an answer gets you $50$ karma. If you're the only contributor to an answer, then a 'like' will get you $100$ karma.

For answers that you have contributed to, the karma is split according to the % contribution.

If you have 50% of an answer, for example, then a 'like' given to that answer will get you $50$ karma. For 20% of an answer by contribution, you get $20$ karma, and so on.
