We know that the Work will result in a change in potential energy of the crane so that:

$W = \Delta U = m g h - 0$

(zero at the bottom of the ramp)

where:

$h = l \sin \left(\frac{\pi}{4}\right) = 1 \cdot \frac{\sqrt{2}}{2}$

and so:

$W = 5 \cdot 9.8 \cdot \frac{\sqrt{2}}{2} = 34.6 \approx 35 J$
