How to find y-intercept given (-2,1) and (5,6)?

May 10, 2015

There is another way.
Standard form of the line: y = ax + b.
Find a and b.
Line passing at point (-2, 1) gives the equation:
1 = -2a + b -> b = 1 + 2a
Line passing at point (5, 6) gives:
6 = 5a + b --> 6 = 5a + 1 + 2a = 1 + 7a ->$a = \frac{5}{7}$
b = 1 + 10/7 = 17/7

Line 's equation: y = 5/7x + 17/7

To find y-intercept, make x = 0: > y = 17/7
