$\text{3-pentanol}$ and $\text{1-propanol}$ can be oxidized, and thus they may reduce the $C r \left(V I +\right)$ salt.
The ${2}^{\circ}$ alcohol, ${H}_{3} C - C {H}_{2} C H \left(O H\right) C {H}_{2} C {H}_{3}$, would be oxidized to the ketone; which one? The ${1}^{\circ}$ alcohol, ${H}_{3} C - C {H}_{2} C {H}_{2} O H$, would be oxidized to the aldehyde, and then to the carboxylic acid.
But the ${3}^{\circ}$ alcohol, ${H}_{3} C - C {H}_{2} C \left(C {H}_{3}\right) \left(O H\right) C {H}_{3}$, cannot be further oxidized without breaking the carbon skeleton, and should remain inert to an oxidizing agent.
