"Immediate" answers on Socratic - or any other message board are usually rare. The answer to this one would be (a) 1m.


With smooth vertical surfaces, the maximum it could travel would be 2m, because beyond that it simply go up the other side and come back down. Therefore, (c) and (d) are not possible.

Given the height of 1 meter, that maximizes the potential energy, which will convert to kinetic energy on the way down. Given the addition frictional resistance on the horizontal plane, it cannot travel farther than it fell. Therefore, it cannot be (b), so the answer is (a) from the options.
