# Is a solute a mixture in which particles can be seen and easily separated?

A $\text{solute}$ is a material, gas, solid, or liquid, $\text{the solute}$, that is dispersed homogeneously in another (or the same) phase. The more abundant material is usually described as the $\text{solvent}$.
The $\text{solute}$ may be separated from a $\text{liquid solution}$ by crystallization of the $\text{solute}$, or by distillation of the $\text{solvent}$.
