Suppose you connect a battery to a small light bulb with a single wire. What will happen?
There is not enough information to give a definitive answer.
What size is the battery, what type of bulb, what gauge of wiring? remember, the thicker (or lower gauge) the wire, the more resistance.
If the battery is a standard AA or AAA, and you wrap the proper gauge wire around a common small bulb, then place one end of the wire against the negative side of the battery and the end of the bulb to the positive side, it will light up. If that battery is a car battery, then the bulb may burn out quickly.
