Temperate grasslands are found in areas where there is little rain. The temperature is moderate and not very cold and not very warm.

Since there is little rain, trees are not common. You may see a few but there is mostly grass.

This makes the ecosystem rather unproductive. The grass and the few trees are the primary producers. But the amount of energy in this energy base makes for very few consumers and most likely only a pair or two of top predators.
