What is the distance between (4, 4) and (-4, 11) ?

Apr 17, 2016

$\sqrt{113}$

Explanation:

Distance Formula:
$\sqrt{{\left({x}_{2} - {x}_{1}\right)}^{2} + {\left({y}_{2} - {y}_{1}\right)}^{2}}$

It doesn't matter what you denote as ${x}_{1}$ or ${x}_{2}$, but you must know that they are the x-coordinates. The same thing goes for the y-coordinates too.

$\sqrt{{\left(- 4 - 4\right)}^{2} + {\left(11 - 4\right)}^{2}}$

=$\sqrt{{\left(- 8\right)}^{2} + {\left(7\right)}^{2}}$

=$\sqrt{64 + 49}$

=$\sqrt{113}$
