# What is the first goal to accomplish in analyzing a complex series-parallel circuit?

Apr 22, 2015

For me, the first thing i always do is,

I try as much as possible to reduce the number of resistors

Consider this circuit

It's always good practice to reduce like here, you can combine the resistors of $3 \Omega$ and $4 \Omega$ by calculating their resistances $\text{ R} = \frac{3 \times 2}{3 + 2} = \frac{6}{4} = 1.5 \Omega$

So now we are left with two resistors instead of three.Got it?

The choice of the resistors is not always the same, it depends on the question!
