Hypothalamus is a small part of the fore brain but it is extremely important for being a functional connection between nervous and endocrine system.

Explanation:

Hypothalamus is present on the ventral side of third ventricle, a part of diencephalon of brain. There are a collection of neurons in hypothalamus. Pituitary gland is hanging from the hypothalamus.

Hormones are released from hypothalamus: which are neurohumors secreted by axonic terminals of hypothalamic neurons. Hypothalamic hormones control secretions of anterior pituitary.

Hypothalamic neurons are also extending axonic terminals inside posterior pituitary: so posterior pituitary hormones are indirectly produced by hypothalamic entities.

Hypothalamus is otherwise controlling important functions related to body homeostasis, sleep cycle, etc.
