Dendrite is short projection of nerve cell. Its function is to communicate neighboring cells.

Explanation:

Nerve cells are with long and short projections. Long projection is known as axon. While short projections are known as dendrites. Dendrites are many. At the end of dendrite are vesicles known as synaptic vesicles. These synaptic vesicles release chemicals which either excite or inhibit the neighboring nerve cell. In short dendrites intercommunicate neighboring nerve cells.
