What was the typical diet of an American during the Great Depression?
They had a garden, and people would can vegetables, you know, corn and green beans, tomatoes and things.
They actually ate a lot of rabbit and squirrels. We had a big
family, 14 kids of different ages, whatever they had they
shared, and most of the time it wasn’t a lot, but it was always
something. Some of the time they also ate gravy, cornmeal gravy.
