British authorities wanted to use Opium as a form of payment
During the nineteenth century, British people imported tea, porcelain and silk from China. They thought opium to be a more convenient payment than hard silver. Opium had a very impact on the Chinese population since it was a hard drug, the Chinese authorities protested and the 1838 opium broke out and lasted until 1842.
