When alphabetizing long lists of names for publication, do you consider space, apostrophes and hyphens in people's names, or disregard them?

I would keep them, however it would not affect the alphabetisation of the names at all.

It could be part of their names due to different cultures having different numbers and forms of names; therefore ought to be respected when writing their name for publication. However, for the sake of simplicity, do not have categories for people who have names that begin with characters other than letters.

It's important to keep the space, apostrophe and hyphens.

This way, you will be respecting the name of the person. In some cultures, these hyphens and apostrophes hold meaning to the name, their community and values.
