Which is a transition metal: gold, iron, copper, lithium? How can you tell?

Lithium is the only non-transition elements.


A transition metal is defined as a metal which forms ions with a partially filled d-subshell.

Lithium is not in the d-block, so it can't even be considered. The other three are in the d-block and form ions with partially filled d-subshells.
