Who was Jane Addams?
Jane Addams was the founder of Hull House in Chicago.
Jane Addams in the late 19th saw the plight of immigrant women in Chicago's poorest sections of the city. It was her idea to help women improve their position with their community. Prime among them was their health and the health of their children. She was able to use Hull House as a place women could go to and be seen by a physician, to get information about proper care of their children, to understand the importance of keeping a clean household. It was also a place the women could gather and discuss among them the problems they encountered in daily life. He autobiography, "Thirty Years at Hull House" is an excellent read to gain greater insight into her work.
