Why do new subjects need a certain number of "high activity days" to graduate?

Subjects in beta have two community goals they must reach in order to graduate to official Socratic subjects:

A high activity day is attained when at least 8 people contribute to that subject in a day.

The reason for this goal: in order for a Socratic subject to help the most students and have the widest reach, it needs a strong community of contributors who participate regularly.

Anyone can contribute answers during beta, so if a mix of subject founders and enthusiasts write answers every day, the subject can reach its high activity days goal quickly!

You can track a new subject's progress towards graduation on its beta page.
