Sodium aids in nerve impulses, regulates blood flow and pressure, and helps maintain a fluid balance in the body.

Explanation:

Despite sodium's bad rep for causing high blood pressure and strokes, among other things, sodium is actually needed to live. Sodium is the reason why our muscles can contract and messages between nerves and muscle fibers are sent. It even keeps us from being dehydrated since it helps maintain a normal fluid balance. Not only that, it helps maintain blood pressure and keeps it flowing through our body.
