Chloroplasts, which contain the green pigment chlorophyll, are the organelles in green plants and protists in which photosynthesis takes place.

During photosynthesis, light energy is converted into chemical energy stored in the chemical bonds of glucose, the primary source of food, directly or indirectly, for virtually all organisms.
