Step1. Draw the bond-line structure of 3-methylhexan-3-ol.

Step 2. Convert this to a wedge-dash structure.

(a) Start by making the CH₃ bond a wedge and the OH bond a dash. We have a
50 % chance of getting it right.

(b) Assign configurations. This is the #R# isomer. We got it right!

Step 3.

To convert this to a Fischer projection, draw a vertical line of six carbon atoms, with a cross at C-3.

Step 4. Attach the CH₃ and the OH groups to the correct sides.

We must look at the molecule from the bottom left. This puts OH on the left and CH₃ on the right.
