Diatomites belong to the class of plant kingdom algae , diatoms are white, soft and porous in nature, when a diatom dies it leaves behind shells made from organic compounds and silica
This silica from diatoms, has mild abrasive properties due to which they are used in tooth powder and tooth pastes.
